Jyusan Mairi (Celebration of the age 13)
In Kyoto, in April we celebrate when the children become 13 years old. The parents bring their sons and daughters to Jyusan Mairi.
The God of this temple gives the wisdom to the children. The children also write one favorite Kanji letter such as 知 wisdom美 beauty 夢 dream 友 friends福 Good luck etc. and leave them in the temple to become their wishes come true.

Always have a dream
Normally the parents don´t let their children write some funny or joke such as 金money、男 Boyfriend女 Girlfriend. You can find some parents telling off to their children about this matter there.
Also, the age 13 is the first year of bad luck called Yakudoshi in Japanese .so we go to temple to get rid of these bad luck. This is really common thing in Japan. Many people keep going to the shrine or temple every bad luck year after becoming adult. On the internet you can find your bad luck year according to which year you were born. At the 13 years old it is said that your body starts becoming adult. So many changes will happen that year. So the parents wish their sons and daughter grow up well without any problem or disease.
When you come back from the temple, you pass the bridge called Togetsukyou, if you look back when you are crossing the bridge, you will leave the wisdom that the God has just given you in the temple. I really remember this superstition, because my mother kept telling me not to look back from the first step to the last step. Some of my friends looked back when they were crossing the bridge, later they suspended some exam, but now they are heathy and fine!!

En abril en Kyoto celebramos la llegada a la edad de 13 años. Los padres llevan a sus hijos e hijas al templo Hourinji en Arashiyama. El dios de este templo da la sabiduría a los niños. Los niños también escriben su letra kanji favorita. Por ejemplo, sabiduría, belleza, sueño, amigos, buena suerte, (知, 美, 夢, 友, 福) Y las dejamos en el templo para que se cumplan nuestros deseos. Yo escribí la letra sueño. Normalmente los padres no dejan que los niños hagan bromas y escriban las palabras como dinero, lotería, novia, novio. Puedes escuchar a las madres regañando a los chicos y chicas por este tema.
A los 13 años empieza el primer año de la mala suerte en Japón, que se llama Yakudoshi. Así que hay que empezar a visitar el templo para quitar la mala suerte. Muchas personas en Japón siguen visitando el templo para quitar esta mala suerte. Podéis consultar vuestro año de mala suerte en internet dependiendo del año que habéis nacido. Se dice que a los 13 años dejas de ser un niño y habrán muchos cambios. Por eso los padres también desean que sus hijos crezcan sin problemas y con salud.
Cuando regresas del templo cruzas el puente llamado Togetsukyou, se dice que cuando cruzas si miras atrás perderás la sabiduría que acaba de darte el dios del templo. Me acuerdo perfectamente de esto porque mi madre no paraba de decirme que no mirara hacia atrás cuando cruzaba el templo, desde el principio hasta el final. Algunos amigos míos miraron hacia atrás cuando cruzaban y luego suspendieron algunos exámenes, pero ahora están sanos y felices!
