Writing ‘love’
In Japan the tradition in Valentine´s day is that the girls give chocolates to the boys. There are two types of chocolates this day. One is Giri choco and another is Hon mei choco.
The Giri choco is the chocolate that is given as a courtesy to co-workers, friends, classmates, family, etc. Just to give good impression, don’t raise too much your hope. It is obvious that the girls are not interested in you. Sometimes the work subordinates give the ‘giri choco’ to the boss just for courtesy, and they make clear ‘this is guiri choco’. My mother and my sister also bought me ‘giri choco’, and it tasted good, I appreciated!
The Hon Mei choco is the chocolate that you give to the boy who you love and sometimes it comes with a love letter or you confess your love when you hand out the chocolate. Also, there are many boys who don´t get any chocolate that day. Neither ‘giri choco’, nor hon mei choco…I hope this year I get some choco (any type of choco)
By the way, the boys who get the chocolate that day, they are supposed to return some gift on the 14th of March called “White day.”

El día de san Valentín en Japón, algunos chicos no reciben su chocolate
En Japón la tradición el día de San Valentín es que las chicas regalan chocolates a los chicos. Hay dos modalidades de regalo, uno es Giri choco y otro es Hon mei choco.
El Giri choco es el chocolate que se regala por cortesía a los compañeros del trabajo, amigos, compañeras de clase, familia, etc. Para quedar bien, así que no te hagas ilusiones, se nota que la chica no está interesada evidentemente, por pena u obligación te lo regala, a veces hasta en el trabajo la subordinada del jefe le regala a su jefe para quedar bien. Y te dejan claro que esto es ‘giri choco’ hasta mi madre y mi hermana me daban este chocolate. (Pero aunque sea guiri choco también está bueno y se agradece)
El Hon Mei choco es el chocolate que se regala al chico que te gusta y a veces va acompañado de una carta. Ese día muchas chicas aprovechan para confesar su amor. También hay chicos que se quedan sin su chocolate. Bueno a ver si me cae algún chocolate este año, ¡aunque sea Guiri choco!
Los chicos que reciben chocolate ese día, se supone que deberían devolver algún regalo a las chicas el día 14 de Marzo que se llama “White day.(el día blanco)”
Aquí en Europa, las parejas intercambian regalos, así que os enseño este pequeño tutorial si queréis intentar hacer una tarjeta en japonés a vuestra pareja.
